| | The trip to Nashville KICKED ASS. Nashville is probably the best city in America to go bar-hopping. We went to an Irish pub, blues joint, cowboy bar, and the Beer Sellar in one night and all within a half-mile of each other. And all these places had live music to fit the ambiance; the Beer Sellar had an acoustic duo. But we probably went a little over-board. When you puke in the stands of the stadium the next day, you know it was a good night. (Sorry Zalec, I had to say it cause it was so bad ass.) Thanks Zalec and Jungkunz for an awesome night.
Too bad the game wasn't equally awesome. Two of the worst calls all season absolutely cost us the game and exemplify Mason's tenure. Not attempting the field goal before the half was a terrible call. If the game comes down to a field goal at the end, which it should have, you at least give your place kicker some actual playing time. If he made it, that would have been a 6-point swing. Even if he misses it, he has that feel for the end of the game. But if you want to go for it on 4th and 7 with 35 seconds left, at least do a running play. That way, if you don't make it, you probably take twice as much time off the clock as opposed to a pass play.
And the last play of the game was an atrocious call. You have 45 seconds and 3 downs to set-up a field goal. If you want to take a shot at the endzone on first down, that's a good call. But don't bring three receivers with three defenders to the same spot for a jump ball. Unbelievable.
Why the University is satisfied with mediocracy and extended Mason's contract, I can't understand. I think this guy sitting near us at the game summed it up precisely. With Mason, we'll never be bad, but we'll never be good. |
